Motivcom's financial performance was a catalyst in his decision to stand for election.
"I stood down from the board when we acquired Zibrant and MTM and the country went into recession as I felt I needed to dedicate all my time to Motivcom," said Cooper. "Motivcom has had a record year with a 46% growth in profit, we have capable directors, and I feel I now have the opportunity to put something back into the association."
Highlighting the crucial role of events in business and lobbying against government intervention with legislation like TOMS will be on Cooper's agenda if elected to the board.
"Given the level of government intervention, TOMS, and the bad PR that the industry has had, these are the things we need to fight back on," he said. "After the negative press about incentives and corporate hospitality, we need to re-educate companies and the national media that they are a crucial part of the marketing mix. They don't criticise companies for spending on advertising campaigns."
