The three-day educational conference is being held at the Malaga Fairs & Congress Center.
MPI chairwoman Ann Godi said in her presentation at yesterday's opening ceremony that the association's research indicated that the events industry was beginning to recover from the recession.
"Business conditions have improved a lot since our last conference in Turin a year ago," she said. "In December, our ‘business barometer' research found that only 5% of members reported concerns about the way meetings and events are being perceived. And our Future Watch [research] shows that our members expect to record growth in business this year."
She added that it was important for the industry to adapt to changes in the market caused by the recession, and that a key focus of the MPI conference would be "defining the new normal" in the market.
