Hindman - previously vice chair - replaces AstraZeneca global category leader (business travel) Caroline Strachan, who has completed her two-year tenure as chair.

Strachan is now ITM immediate past chair, replacing Pricewaterhousecoopers head of business services Mark Avery.

"For three-quarters of my tenure, we have been in a recession and the board has committed huge amounts of time and energy to ensure the association flourishes in this difficult time for the industry," said Strachan.

Hindhaugh plans to focus on providing greater resources to members and improving relations between buyers and suppliers.

"I'm not here to dramatically alter the course of the association, rather to build on the success achieved to date and focus our efforts on areas where we can help members the most," said Hindhaugh. "It is an incredibly exciting time to be taking the helm and I recognise the great work that the board and management of ITM have achieved to date."
