Abour five support staff will be made redundant in the UK. Universal Procon's spokeswoman confirmed that the total number of event management staff would remain the same and that there would be no redundancies in the US.

The pharmaceutical specialist agency's US operation will also move to Pennsylvania by the end of this year.

Universal Procon's UK office is being moved from Slough to Ashby-de-la Zouch because the Leicestershire town is the location of parent company United Drug's contract sales and marketing services.

It will join sister companies Ashfieldin2focus and Business Edge in the Ashby-de-la Zouch office, which has on site training and meetings facilities.

The relocation is designed to "enhance efficiencies and offer an unrivalled service from which all customers can benefit", said a Universal Procon statement.

Universal Procon also confirmed that some of its staff will work remotely, and that a multi-lingual delegate management service is being developed as part of the restructure.

United Drug acquired Universal CIT in April last year and later merged it with Procon Conferences and rebranded the agency Universal Procon.

Universal Procon's first set of financial figures since the acquisition show that its turnover for the year to 30 September 2009 was more than £42m and its pre-tax operating profit was £2.17m.

C&IT's 2009 State of the Industry Report found that Universal Holdings turned over 26m in 2008 - before the acquisition.
