Speaking to more than 200 delegates at London's Royal Opera House, Tess Alps, chief executive of TV marketing body Thinkbox, said advancing technology should not diminish the use of face-to-face communication in the future.
"In a world of screen experiences, live events will be terribly important," she said. "What you have to do is build emotional connections with your brands."
Alps, whose organisation counts ITV and Sky Media as shareholders, was taking part in a debate on how communication will change in the next 50 years.
Other speakers at the conference, staged by live event agency Smyle, included Nokia UK managing director Will Harris, COI chief executive Mark Lund, Microsoft UK managing director of advertising Ashley Highfield and Aviva global chief marketing officer Amanda Mackenzie.
