Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has submitted a planning application for major expansion plans for its stadium to the London Borough of Haringey.

The application is hoped to go to the planning committee in the New Year and would see the creation of a new stadium built on a 20-acre site, made up of land at the existing stadium and adjacent industrial sites.

The new site will be bordered by Park Lane to the south, Worcester Avenue to the east, Northumberland Park to the north and the High Road to the west.

The developments would include a 56,250-capacity stadium, a public square located on the High Road and offering two amphitheatres, a 150-room hotel with a restaurant, plus a café opening out onto the public square, and a Club museum.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club chairman Daniel Levy said: "This is a multi-million pound investment in the area. We have designed what will be a vibrant area 365 days a year and not a stadium with dead space surrounding it."

The plans also promise to deliver a 40% reduction in carbon emissions against current building regulations.

England 2018 chief executive Andy Anson said: "Tottenham Hotspur FC's provisional designs for its new stadium are very impressive. Potential England 2018 host cities will deliver their final bid submissions to us in November and we fully expect the stadium to be one of those included as a potential venue for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids."
