BP events director highlights health and safety issues for events

A senior figure from BP has highlighted the need for event directors to adopt rigorous policies to ensure the health and safety of delegates.

Kevin McFarlane, who is BP Fuels and Lubricants Technology global HSSE manager, was speaking at a forum of event directors in London. He said a key focus of his role within BP's fuel and lubricants technology division was to carry out risk-assessment studies to rule out potential hazards and problems.

Every aspect of travel and venue layout had to be checked in advance, he said.

"The primary objective is to make sure delegates can travel safely to and from the venue and that they enjoy the event as they should," he said.

McFarlane was a guest speaker at Venues Event Management's latest event directors' forum, held at St James's Hotel & Club in London.
