Pharmaceutical corporation Novo Nordisk and MCI are putting their weight behind an initiative promoting Denmark as a green meetings destination.

The Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol is set to launch in February to increase the sustainability of large international meetings and aims to promote Copenhagen and Denmark as a green meetings destination, by integrating local and international initiatives, standards, systems and certification programmes.

The initiative has been championed by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Visit Denmark, the City of Copenhagen, Wonderful Copenhagen Convention & Visitors bureau, Novo Nordisk, and MCI Group.

Novo Nordisk clinical event manager (clinical operations haemostasis) Heather Palen said: "We see this as a good opportunity to work toward making large meetings more sustainable, for example by considering location and transportation as well as in the use of products and materials for events. At Novo Nordisk we follow the triple bottom line principle. This implies considering social, environmental and economic implications of our decisions, because we believe this offers long-term value to our business and to society."
