Agencies shunned in favour of websites, says BDRC

Business travellers in the UK are increasingly turning to sites such as Trip Advisor when looking for hotels, rather than using venue-finding agencies, according to a report by Business Development Research Consultants (BDRC).

The survey suggests that 28% of UK business travellers actively seek advice on websites that carry user reviews, while 21% of respondents said they felt the advice they received from business travel agencies was unreliable.

BDRC estimates that decisions based on review sites and blogs are now worth around £500m each year.

BDRC director of hospitality research Matt Costin said the established consumer trend for using review sites had now reached the business sector.

"In the past, a guest's role as either an advocate or detractor was limited to their personal network but now, as more and more business travellers log on to read user-review sites, the impact they are having on corporate bookings is enormous," he said.
