Eventia and the Institute of Travel and Meetings (ITM) have announced a strategic alliance that will see them work together on education, industry relations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) among other issues.

The new charter will also commit the two organisations to collaborate on training, regulation and legislation, industry awards and representation.

Eventia has appointed Grass Roots HBI sales director David Taylor as its representative on the ITM meetings and events working party. His remit is to help develop tools and standards for ITM and ensure it "takes into consideration the work and membership of Eventia".

ITM chair Caroline Strachan said: "There are strong resources available to both organisations and a lot of knowledge to be shared between us through our meetings and events working party. This is a positive step for the industry and it will bring benefits to the members of both organisations."

Eventia chief executive Izania Downie said: "This relationship started almost three years ago with a joint project and since then, we have successfully trialled sharing resources on CSR initiatives and running an event together. There are some great synergies between the organisations and it's a natural step for Eventia to work in partnership with the ITM."
