The scheme assures buyers that a venue or supplier operates within stringent quality, customer-service and best practice criteria.

The Visit Britain-endorsed scheme was developed in cooperation with the Best Practice Forum and will be promoted by MPI to its UK members.

MIA chief executive Jane Evans called the agreement a major step forward for the industry.

"It follows many months of cooperation and discussion between MIA and MPI representatives," she said. "We've demonstrated the opportunities and advantages AIM presents to MPI members and the industry at large, and have now achieved full support and endorsement from the MPI board."

MPI will promote AIM to its membership via regular communications, its website and at monthly education and networking events.

MPI UK and Ireland president Anthony Hyde said: "AIM is a comprehensive, well-respected accreditation that is helping to take the industry forward."
