CSR still high on the agenda

CSR is still an important consideration for event planners despite predictions that it would tail off during the recession, according to Rob Davidson, senior lecturer in Business Travel & Tourism at the University of Westminster.

Speaking at the C&IT Conference today, Davidson said: "When I was doing my annual report on industry trends for EIBTM last year, people said you can forget about CSR, but it has not gone away, it has continued to grow this year, especially the social legacy side. The really big thing is giving something back to the local community."

Increasing use of events technology such as video conferencing and online registration tools continues to be a key trend this year, said Davidson.

"What is really interesting this year is the extent to which social networking sites are being harnessed pre- and post-event for getting people to interact and create groups," he added.

In terms of market trends, Davidson said that both internal and external corporate meetings have been hardest hit by the recession, while the association, academic, and government sectors have remained relatively stable.
