The International Zebrafish Conference will take place in June 2011 at the EICC and is anticipated to attract 800 scientists from across the world, and generate £1.45m for the local economy.

The four-day event will have a medical focus, covering scientific research and development of the fish, which are used in laboratories to model human genetic diseases.

It is one of 36 events that Edinburgh has secured between 15 July and 17 August this year that will take place between 2009 and 2011.

Edinburgh Convention Bureau chief executive Sue Stuart said that business tourism secured between April and July 2009 was worth £26m, up £1.2m on the same period in 2008.
