Shell was unavailable for comment, but it is understood the agencies will supply the company with a range of services over the next three years including venue-sourcing, event production, logistics and communication.

Imagination, Jack Morton, Opus, and Grass Roots have all worked with Shell before, but Zibrant is new to the account.

The agencies were selected following a year-long pitch by the company's procurement department, during which over 100 agencies were narrowed down to a shortlist of 15.

Other agencies believed to have pitched for a place on the Shell roster include First Protocol, Banks Sadler and BCD Meetings and Incentives.

Grass Roots revealed that it is already working on two large Shell events planned for 2010. "We are looking forward to delivering events for Shell all over the world," said Grass Roots global head of events Nick Bender.
