Swindon-based Venues Event Management made the donation to celebrate the return to work of client manager Jason Cardy, who was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year.

Cardy, who has worked for the agency for nine years and is responsible for key accounts including Royal Mail, has recovered from the illness after undergoing five months of treatment at the Great Western Hospital.

He chose the hospital's Dove Unit as the recipient for the £500 funds raised by Venues Event Management summer barbeque, which was sponsored by Village Hotels.

"It's great that the money raised is going to the team that cared for me so well," said Cardy. "They saved my life, so it's brilliant to be able to give something back."
