Wimbledon attracts more than 500,000 visitors, including corporate guests, to London annually.

London hotel occupancy levels in June were one percentage point below the same period last year, according to research by consultancy TRI Hospitality Consulting.

UK Chain Hotels Market Review - June 2009 found, however, that London hotels were continuing to discount room rates, which dropped by 8.8% compared to June 2008.

London hotel occupancy levels fell by 2.7 percentage points to 77.3% in the six months to June 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, and average room rates were down 7.3% at £108.39.

TRI Hospitality Consulting deputy managing director David Bailey said: "During previous recessions, once we have seen occupancy flatten out, it has taken a few more months before the rate steadies."
