QEIICC chief executive Ernest Vincent said: "The property is up for sale as part of the government's wish to realize cash from its assets."

The venue is operating as normal during the sale period.

"We will continue to run as usual and are trading well," Vincent added.

International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing is holding its 8th International Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, it was announced earlier this week.

The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre's (QEIICC) strong financial performance allowed the government-owned London venue to pay a dividend of £4.5m to the Exchequer.

The purpose-built centre announced turnover of over £11.5m for the 2008 financial year.

The QEIICC hosted 384 meetings and events during the year, and its room hire increased by 8.7 per cent.

The centre spent £1.2m on improving the building and its equipment over the same period, which included a digital signage system featuring large flatscreen displays introduced in September 2008.
