The complex will support the centre's education programmes by offering overnight accommodation to conference delegates, researchers and students.

Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre has applied for planning permission to construct the complex, which will be located opposite the conference centre.

A biomass burner that provides energy from manure produced by the property's livestock is likely to be installed at the complex.

Sheepdrove operations director Russell Downing said the complex would be complete in late 2010 or early 2011 if it got the go-ahead for construction.

"While Sheepdrove has always been a unique venue, providing food with a focus on sustainability, our lack of accommodation has driven away certain business or forced clients to use nearby accommodation," said Downing.

"These bedrooms will allow us to meet the needs of all clients."
