World Events is working towards achieving BS8901-compliance for its annual company conference held in York last Friday.

It is the first time that the agency has aimed for BS8901-compliance on one of its events.

The outdoor festival-inspired conference was held in a series of tents at Escrick Park, York and attended by World Events staff from the UK and its overseas offices, as well as supplier partners including the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

World Events chose Escrick Park because it is a conservation site, and tents because of their minimal impact on the environment.

The agency recycled refuse during the event and partnererd with caterer Saunts to use local, seasonal food.

World Events is using Seventeen Events' sustainability measurement tool, Eventberry, to measure the conference's compliance with BS8910.

It expects to determine whether the conference achieved compliance with the British Standard within a fortnight.

World Events senior marketing and CSR executive Vicky Pratt said: "Triple impact (environmental, social and financial) sustainability is at the core of our service offering and we wanted to challenge ourselves to make this conference achieve the triple impact."
