The Open's first day of play on 16 July coincides with the Turnberry golf resort's relaunch.

Formerly Turnberry Resort, the property has been rebranded Turnberry a Luxury Collection Resort, and its new owner, Leisurecorp, has completed a £40m renovation of the Scottish hotel.

The resort's public spaces and 40 of its 211 rooms have been the focus of the work.

The property's Ailsa golf course will host to the Open between 16 to 19 July.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide sold the resort for £55m to Leisurecorp, which is a subsidiary of Dubai World company Nakheel, in November last year. Starwood retains management of the property.

Nakheel Hotels chief executive Joe Sita said the company worked with heritage consultants during the restoration of the property to ensure its history was preserved.

"The upgrade of the golf course and completion of the restoration programme has been key for us in 2009," said Sita. "It's an honour for Turnberry to once again host the Open."
