BT has been announced as the new headline sponsor of the Visit London Awards.

The BT Visit London Awards will celebrate the capital's best hotels, events, attractions and people and be held at the Westfield mall in Shepherd's Bush on 5 November.

BT group marketing and brand director Suzi Williams said: "We understand the importance of tourism to the economy in London, and this will grow in the build-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The BT Visit London awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate everything London has to offer."

Visit London interim chief executive Sally Chatterjee said the awards were now in their sixth year and she anticipated more award submissions than ever before.

The 2009 BT Visit London Awards categories include:

  • Corporate Event of the Year
  • Business Venue of the Year
  • Consumer Event of the Year
  • Sustainable Tourism Award
  • Large Hotel of the Year
  • Best Gastronomic Experience of the Year
