Black Tomato Events delays New York office opening

Black Tomato has delayed opening its New York office, but plans to launch a UK in-bound DMC service within the next six to 12 months.

The agency hopes to expand its Shoreditch office to include an in-bound DMC service within the next year.

"There are around 25-30 people at the office now but it easily has capacity for double that," said Black Tomato director Matt Smith. "To start with, I would envisage there being around six new faces coming in but it would depend on client uptake."

The DMC division would initially focus on the US market, Smith added. "The US is a huge market so that's where we'd start as we already do business there," he said. "But I could certainly see it rolling out across European countries."

The agency has a PR representative in New York but said the US-based office would not open this year.

Smith commented: "New York is on hold at the moment. We are being cautious and it would have been a significant expenditure. It will probably be on hold this year and something that we look at next year."
