Cheshire has announced it will continue investing in new infrastructure and facilities in a bid to become the UK's top C&I destination.

Developments in the past 12 months have included the £27m Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Hoole, and an £18m expansion of the Queen Hotel, Chester, which expanded to 218 rooms with the new Kings at the Queen building featuring 87 suites, an executive lounge, bar and restaurant.

The Chester Grosvenor and Spa has completed a £3.5m upgrade with new conference facilities, and Nunsmere Hall has undergone a £350,000 refurbishment.

The 80-room Abode Chester is due to open in February 2010 with a restaurant, a Champagne bar, café and boutique.

Improved transport
The region has also benefitted from the upgrading of West Coast rail links between Chester, the Midlands, London and the South coast.

Chester & Cheshire Conference Bureau (CCCB) account manager Fiona Brown said: "We recognise the tremendous competition we face from other regions but where we believe we can score with organisers and delegates is with the fantastic choice of venue styles, the quality of our food and drink offer, and the vast range of activities and events that are available for all interests and age groups."

Association wins

Cheshire has won record numbers of association event bookings for the coming months, including the Garden Centre Association international conference, and annual conferences for the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Association of British Riding Schools and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
