Tower Bridge Exhibition reopens following lift-plunge

Access is restricted to stairs

Tower Bridge Exhibition: reopens

Tower Bridge Exhibition has reopened after it was closed because of a plunging lift that injured six tourists.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been investigating the popular London event space since the lift in the north tower fell ten feet on Monday.

The Engine Room reopened on Wednesday but the other event spaces remained closed until yesterday.

The lift at the centre of the HSE inquiry is to be removed for further inspection.

Seasoned Events managing director Colin Sayers, who provides catering to the venue, said: "As the lift in the south tower is almost identical, it too will be subject to a HSE prohibition order and can not be used again until appropriate testing has been conducted."

Meanwhile, access to the Walkways is now restricted to stairs and Seasoned Events will suggest alternative venues for guests who have accessibility or mobility issues, said Sayers.
