O2 and Philips have appointed Lodestar to run a number of events, which has helped the agency achieve a record financial year.

Lodestar managing director Phil Watton said the agency had commenced roll-out of a series of roadshows for O2 after it won a competitive pitch for the account.

The deal will include four roadshows for O2 call centre staff, he said. The company's offices in Preston Brook, Bury, Glasgow and Leeds are to be venues for the upcoming roadshow, which is due to take place in June.

"O2 is a brand new client and hopefully this is a programme that will develop throughout the year," he said.

Lodestar has also been awarded, for the fifth consecutive year, the account to run the Philips IFA press launch in Berlin in September. "It's a one-hour presentation by Philips' senior executives and is expected to attract 600 delegates," said Watton. "We have a long-standing relationship with Philips and we have been retained to do this business based on our past performance."

The London-based agency is also poised to broaden its offering, with the launch of Lodestar Films scheduled for this month. The standalone corporate film division is being created to expand the service that has already attracted the likes of M&S, for which Lodestar has produced films including a staff-induction piece, and Sony Ericsson.

Lodestar's diversi-fication comes on the back of a record 2008. "We are going to report pre-tax profits of £200,000 for 2008, which is more than double that of 2007," said Watton. "We attribute that growth largely to our margin management and ensuring that the projects we work on are run as efficiently as possible."

He said that the agency was well placed to withstand the recession as its client-base is spread across many industry sectors: "While we do quite a lot of automotive work, we don't have more than 50% of our business in any one industry sector and that helps in the current climate."

Two additional employees have also recently joined the agency including Clare West, a former freelancer who has worked as a project manager for Jack Morton Worldwide. She has been recruited to the post of producer.
