The Rheged Centre: North west England shines in the Enjoy England Awards

The north west of England picked up two accolades at the Enjoy England Awards this week.

The Rheged Centre in Penrith was named England's Best Business Tourism Venue, while Cumbria's five-star Augill Castle won the Bed and Breakfast of the Year award.

The Rheged Centre is Europe's largest grass covered building, and offers seven rooms for two to 200 delegates. Judges praised the property for "showing that business tourism can still be green while continuing to provide the best overall service".

Cumbria Tourism chief executive Ian Stephens said: "For Cumbria to have the only two north west winners in this year's national tourism awards is another brilliant achievement for our industry and is growing evidence of how our businesses are continually raising the standard year after year."

England's north west chair Felicity Goodey Tourism said: "The north west of England is fast becoming a recognised, high-quality, international visitor destination and that is in a large part because of businesses such as Rheged and Augill Castle, which offer some of the best places to stay and visit in the country."

The Enjoy England Awards for Excellence awards were held at the National Railway Museum in York.

Silver winners in the Business Tourism Award of the Year category included Loughborough University's Imago and Excel London.
