Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre completes £122m expansion

HKCEC now offers 66,000sqm of event space following enlargement

The Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre's £122m expansion is complete, adding 19,400sqm of event space to the venue - a 42% increase to a total of 66,000sqm.

The first event at the enlarged HKCEC will be the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), on 13-16 April.

The expansion is being forecast to bring extra economic benefit to Hong Kong of up to £127m, while creating 3,600 new jobs.

"The expansion marks a new era for conferences and exhibitions," said Hong Kong Trade Development Council executive director Fred Lam. "Hong Kong will become a world leader, attracting more international buyers and bringing substantial benefits to Hong Kong."

In the region of 20 new trade fairs will take place at the HKCEC in the next year. In addition, 30 recurrent fairs will use the new exhibition halls in the HKCEC expansion.

Work on the project began in May 2006 and took 34 months to complete.
