Agency: IDL Marketing
DMC: Scandinavian Image
Group size: 15
Dates: 11- 13 March 2008
Venue: Radisson SAS Lillehammer
The Brief: The agency needed to find an inspiring winter location for the third part of its client's annual four-tier incentive. The 15-strong group was a well travelled one, which meant there was an emphasis on sourcing somewhere out of the ordinary.
Challenges: The only real challenge lay in deciding on the destination. The likes of Italy and Switzerland were ruled out on cost, so it was necessary to look at other short-haul possibilities.
Solution: "Lillehammer seemed the perfect solution," says IDL Marketing account director Lisa Lawrie. "The flights are short, there is a good range of winter activities and, despite things like drinks being quite expensive, the overall cost fitted well with the budget. The DMC was very proactive too."
Execution: The group flew into Oslo from Heathrow, before a two-hour transfer to the outskirts of Lillehammer. Lunch was served on reindeer skins in a traditional lavvu tee-pee, before participants had the chance to mush huskies over the surrounding countryside. They then transferred to the Radisson SAS Lillehammer, where they spent the next two nights. Dinner was served in a local restaurant.
The following day was given over to skiing. Those who had little or no previous experience were offered lessons, and a group lunch was held on the slopes. The evening took in another restaurant and a nightclub. The final morning saw the group treated to bob-rafting (a form of group bobsleighing) and Skidoo driving, before the airport transfer.
Verdict: Lexis Nexis says it was a great team-building event that was extremely well organised by IDL. "It was a perfectly organised trip and the three days were completely unforgettable," says Robert Kucher, senior marketing, propositions and communications executive, Lexix Nexis Training and Payroll Alliance.
