United Utilities hosts leadership event in Blackpool

150 managers meet at Barcelo Blackpool Imperial Hotel

Client: United Utilities
Location: Barcelo Blackpool Imperial Hotel
Group size: 150
Date: 5 September 2008

Event overview: Managers from United Utilities' energy and contracting services division were attended a leadership event on engaging employees at Blackpool's Barcelo Imperial Hotel.

"Blackpool offered us ease of access and the opportunity to do something a little different, in this case, pre-dinner drinks on the tram to see the illuminations," says communications manager Lynne Walker. She chose the Barcelo Imperial Hotel because it offered both conference and hotel facilities, as well as value for money.

The presentations kicked off after a buffet lunch in the refurbished Palm Court restaurant. Afterwards, everyone reconvened in the Luis Bar for pre-dinner drinks before the surprise tram ride around the city to see the famous illuminations. On return to the hotel, guests enjoyed a three-course gala dinner.

Verdict: "We were very pleased with the event and it met our objectives," says Walker. "The conference facilities were good and people were very impressed with the tram ride. The fact it coincided with the start of a fireworks display just as we were returning made it even better."
