Estonia targets UK event planners

Estonian Convention Bureau holds first London networking event

The Estonian Convention Bureau held its first London networking event this week as part of an effort to raise awareness of its C&I offer among UK event planners.

The organisation, which was set up a year ago, invited 60 UK corporate and agency buyers to the evening event, which was held at Andaz, Liverpool Street, and featured nine of the convention bureau's 25 partners.

"We wanted to show the UK, which is one of our key target markets, that we are a new and exciting destination," said Estonian Convention Bureau managing director Riine Tiigi.

"We're ideal for people looking for an affordable destination in the credit crunch, but still in Europe, and only two and a half hours flight from the UK."

She added that Estonian capital Tallinn, which is preparing for its tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2011, will also see several key C&I developments this year.

The new Solaris Concert and Conference Centre, which will seat up to 1,800 people, will open this autumn, while the new 301-room Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel with meeting facilities for up to 380 delegates, opens next month.
