Yorkshire South unveils virtual site inspection technology

Tourist board partners with Kognitiv to showcase offer at International Confex

Yorkshire South Tourism (YST) is showcasing new technology at International Confex that enables it to create virtual '4D' site inspections for buyers.

The tourist board has partnered with visual-technology specialist Kognitiv to create a mini-theatre on its stand, enabling visitors to tour venues such as City Hall and Magna in Sheffield using special '4D' glasses.

Kognitiv chief executive said this is the first time the technology has been tailored for use by event planners. "It really brings a venue to life and enables potential buyers to get a view for the detail," he explained.

YST chief executive Richard Jones said unveiling the technology at Confex is the first phase in an ongoing project with Kognitiv. "The next stage will be getting more venues modelled and into the system, and we will then make it available online via a  laptop," he said.

The long-term plan is to make the entire conference guide available through the 4D system so buyers can carry out virtual site inspections of a number of venues in the region.
