Merchant Inns plans to extend its value hotels portfolio to include up to 40 hotels in the UK within the next five years.

Merchant Inns business development manager Ian Bonner told C&IT at Confex: "The new hotels will be in UK. We will look at existing historical and rural properties."

New hotels will offer between 25 and 50 rooms, meeting facilities, fine dining restaurants and gyms, he said.

The company currently has three properties: The Lambert Arms in Oxfordshire, The Talbot Inn in Ripley and the Carnarvon Arms in Burghclere.

The Carnarvon Arms will open a conference facility offering capacity for 100 delegates this summer.
