Event planners need to challenge technological reluctance from budget gatekeepers if they are to engage the next generation of delegates, this morning's Confex show has been told.
"Some meeting owners may love gadgets but many will be luddites and take a lot of convincing," Abbit Meeting Support's Maarten Vanneste told delegates in his seminar session ‘Technology to Supercharge Your Meeting'.
"You have to transform yourself to understand the benefits of the technology available. The Web 2.0 generation do not want traditional meetings."
Vanneste went on to flag up technologies such as SpotMe and Microsoft's planned SenseCam as well as basic and cheaper options such as SMS to create more interactivity, which he said is still underused.
International Confex runs from today until Thursday at London's Earls Court.
