BS8901 will soon be part of all event business that major clients put out to tender, says Greater London Authority head of events Patrick Loy.

Loy told participants in the Sustainable Events Group's BS8901 Sustainable Event Management pilot programme that it was "only a matter of time until all major clients refer to BS8901 within their tender documents as it presents a measureable benchmark of competency and commitment to sustainability".

The authority referred to BS8901 in its tender documents and awarded 10% of points in its tender process to the sustainability performance of contenders, said Loy.

The Sustainable Events Group is a consultancy, which was created to help organisations understand and implement BS8901.

It is running its next half-day seminar on BS8901 on 26 February, and its third workshop on the standard begins on 18 March.
