ITM kicks off increased C&I focus with 'how to' guide

MICE working party unveils first project

The Institute of Travel Management - soon to be renamed the Institute of Travel and Meetings - is to kick off its increased focus on the events industry with a ‘how to' guide for members this April.

The ITM's membership is dominated by corporate planners, a large proportion of which have travel and procurement backgrounds, rather than event management.

On that basis, the guide is aimed at those new to the C&I market.

The document is the first project launched by the ITM's MICE working party, set up at the end of last year and chaired by Zibrant managing director Fay Sharpe.

"The guide will provide an easy to understand good practice guide to the industry, aimed at people coming into the industry or those that have only previously run mature programmes ,which require less maintenance," Sharpe told C&IT.

The guide is set to be the first in a series, with the next publication aimed at more experienced ‘pioneers' coming out later this year.

The working party also includes senior event planners from Barclays, Zurich, BP and Yahoo and is meeting every six weeks.

The events market is also to be a major theme at this year's ITM conference, taking place at Liverpool ACC on 25-27 March.
