Lead times for UK-based events are falling, according to agency Conference Care.

The agency's  ‘UK Benchmark' report, based on its clients' enquiries between April and September, found that planners are holding off booking events throughout the UK.

In London, clients organising events for 51 to 100 delegates are taking six weeks to confirm bookings compared to just three weeks in 2007.

This follows a trend that clients are holding back booking space for larger events prior to signing contracts and being potentially caught out with cancellation charges, said the report.

Conference Care director Chris Peacock said: "Lead times are still falling, with clients recognising the huge amount of strategic promotions being offered, and they are prepared to wait for them in order to achieve the best rates."
