Barclays events head named "Woman of the Year"

C&IT columnist singled out for her passion and bravery

Barclays head of events and C&IT columnist Sarah Wright has been named a "Woman of the Year" by the banking giant as part of its second annual female staff recognition scheme.

The event links in with Barclays' sponsorship of the external Women of the Year national awards, which took place earlier this week. The Barclays staff version saw 70 women nominated, with 14 shortlisted and seven Women of the Year named.

Judges highlighted Wright as someone that "leads with vision, confidence and zeal, and engages her clients and team through her passion for creating meaningful, memorable events that drive the business."

The panel also singled out Wright's personal bravery, having been the victim of an unprovoked knife attack in 2005 on her way home from work, leading to several months of recuperation and counselling. Wright commented: "I am so proud to have been selected by the chief executives at Barclays for this award. I couldn't have achieved everything I have though without the support of my colleagues, friends and family after the attack. I really do owe them all."

Outside of Barclays, Wright also set up charity The Stuart Feakins Trust this year.
