Yahoo! rejigs procurement process

Media giant to overhaul accommodation booking strategy after staff consultation

Global media giant Yahoo! has announced plans to overhaul its meetings procurement programme.

The move is set to follow Yahoo!’s completion of its accommodation booking strategy earlier this year. This saw it consult its 14,000 employees on property preferences and also included a detailed employee profiling system to aid its travel planners.

Yahoo international travel manager Caroline Strachan told today’s HBAA forum that the subsequent meetings review is now currently being trialled in the company’s US offices, with Europe to follow and then Asia Pacific.

Details of when the European overhaul might happen and what changes it will bring are expected to be confirmed next week. It looks likely, however, that an internal social networking facility, along the lines of leisure website Trip Advisor, could form a key part.

Strachan said she is looking to roll that service out for venues and suppliers next year. “I want our travellers to be able to provide feedback and I am very keen to see it,” she told the conference. “I know some hotels get nervous, but it is a way of helping them maintain standards.”
