Agency billing dominates first day of HBAA conference

Billbacks at the heart of conduct code review

Agency billing systems are set to lead the HBAA’s annual review of its code of conduct, it was revealed at the association’s conference in London this afternoon.

A best practice guide for billbacks – wherein agencies consolidate event fees allowing corporates longer repayment periods – will be published by the end of the year, executive director Peter Ducker told this afternoon’s first session. This is to limit the risks of client funds being misplaced, not to put a brake on business, Ducker said.

Ducker hinted at recent incidents where client funds had allegedly not been passed on to suppliers by agencies that had then gone out of business. We all know why this is top of the agenda this year, Ducker said. The guide is written and currently being trialled and reviewed by the HBAA’s legal representatives.

Elsewhere the HBAA’s website is set for relaunch on 30 September, including a ‘career zone’ and an industry events page. The trade body has also revamped its training offer with the launch of an academy system, where participants can receive bronze, silver, gold or platinum accreditation.

The final part of the update saw Ducker confirm that the association’s CSR policy – created in partnership with Oxford Brookes University – will be published online next week.
