Nearly a third of all meetings do not accomplish anything, according to a survey to be published next week by Visit Britain.

Timed to coincide with National Meetings Week, the poll questioned 2,500 UK adults in August. Asked about the importance of workplace meetings, respondents said 29% of them were a waste of time.

The findings were unveiled this lunchtime at meeting of key partners ahead of next week's National Meetings Week. Visit Britain is the key organisation behind the promotional drive and head of business visits and events Joss Croft defended the publication of the statistic. "To get the issue on the agenda we have to take a slightly risky approach," he said.

Elsewhere, the study found that 41 minutes was the average time before people lost concentration in meetings and 52% of respondents said they thought the amount of meetings they attended would decrease in the next 5-10 years.
