The Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) is to host an international sport and sports science conference in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
The International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport will be held at the SECC in Glasgow on 19-27 July 2012. It is expected to attract 3,000 delegates and generate £5m for the local economy.
The Brunel ICSEMIS 2012, a consortium of five UK universities - Brunel University, Liverpool John Moores, University of Strathclyde, UWIC (Cardiff) and Ulster University - worked with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to bid for the conference.
SECC sales director Ben Goedegebuure said: "The SECC will be playing an integral part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games when it comes to Glasgow, and this pre-Olympic conference represents our continuing commitment to supporting and staging major sporting events."
