Green conference centre opens in Lincoln

The new £7m Epic Centre at the Lincolnshire Showground will open its doors for the first time next week. The Sustainable Living Exhibition will be the first event hosted in the purpose-built low-carbon conference and events centre. The centre has been built using the latest environmental materials and technologies. It features rainwater harvesting, composting toilets, a living sedum roof, solar panels to heat water, wind turbines to supply energy, a biomass boiler for heat and sustainable materials throughout. EPIC Project director Dr Nick Cheffins said the centre, which has been built by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, will have a carbon footprint of just 53%, although it hopes to reduce this down to 40%.
