Barclays extends event team as remit grows

Barclays UK Banking Events team has extended its annual event programme by 25%, taking the total number of events it produces to 300. The news follows the announcement that the team has expanded its remit to manage event activity for Barclays UK Retail Bank, Barclays Commercial Bank and Global Retail and Commercial Banking Technology. The bank’s events team has grown to 31 staff as it has centralised delivery of conferences, incentives, exhibitions and customer-facing activity. A raft of recent appointments include the addition of Stuart May as an event manager, who will join next month from PR company Fleishman Hillard where he was associate director for its events division, while Ruth Faulkner joined Barclays last month from Emap Conferences as events assistant. The Barclays events team is headed up by former Illico Events account director Sarah Wright, who said of the personnel moves: “It is a key focus to develop the team and offer real career progression within Barclays, and due to our increased remit, we have also been able to promote Tami Sclare to events coordinator. We were quickly able to fill her events assistant role with Caroline Rae, joining from Eurofinance and we are now looking for one more assistant”. Elsewhere, Barclays is now looking for a new deputy head of events as former deputy Tam Kay has moved to a different role within the organisation. Wright said she was looking for an experienced event planner to take on the role: “We focus on recruiting, developing and retaining the top talent within the business.”
