First Event under sole ownership

First Event director Richard Murphy has bought out his business partner Andy Orrah to become sole owner of the agency. Murphy paid an undisclosed sum to Orrah, who has agreed to resign from the post of director and take on a part time consultancy role at the West Yorkshire-based agency. Orrah founded the agency, originally as a division of Morgan Travel in 1999. It now employs 12 staff. “My role won’t change much but I will concentrate more on the overall direction of the company and get new business on board,” said Murphy. Restructuring at the agency has seen former senior account manager Carolyn Spencer take on the post of head of operations, with a team of four. Adie Godden has been appointed to the position of financial controller and Ruth Oyston is heading up flight reservations. Earlier in the year, the agency recruited Nisha Virani to spearhead the effort to bring in new business. The agency recorded gross profits of more than £560,000 in the year ending June 2007 and Murphy projects 7% growth in the year to June 2008. “Business is strong – we have groups booked up to 2010, with a manufacturing client taking 180 people to Cleveland in September 2010,” he said. First Event has recently relaunched its website and is running a hosted-buyer trip to Istanbul in August.
