NEC Group generates £2bn for local economy

The NEC Group’s four venues generate more than £2bn annually for the West Midlands, according to a KPMG study. Total annual delegate expenditure directly attributed to events held at the National Exhibition Centre, NEC Arena in Solihull, National Indoor Arena and Birmingham’s is estimated at £2.05bn. The survey, carried out from April 2007 to March 2008 by auditor and tax advisor KPMG, also found that 70% of visitors to the NEC Group’s venues came from outside the West Midlands, and that the group supports 28,800 full-time equivalent jobs. The results are up significantly on the previous KPMG survey, carried out in 2004. It found that the group generated £1.3bn for the local economy and supported 22,000 jobs. NEC Group chief executive Paul Thandi said: “To have it confirmed by KPMG that our impact has grown so significantly serves only to reinforce how important it is that the NEC Group remains competitive and successful in the future.”
