Dublin lands five-day, £3.3m conference

Dublin’s Convention Centre (CCD) has secured the right to host the biannual conference for the International Statistical Institute (ISI) in August 2011, in a deal that it is thought will bring £3.3m into the local economy. The five-day event will be attended by some 3,000 delegates and utilise all of the meeting and exhibition facilities at the CCD. The ISI has requested that the Central Statistics Office (CSO) of Ireland be responsible for the organisation of the conference, and the Irish body has appointed MCI Europe to assist them. “As hosts it was very important we selected the right venue for both Ireland and for the ISI,” said CSO head of international relations Paul J Crowley, who is also project manager for the conference. “A strict tendering process was used and the interview panel was very impressed with the facilities and the operational management of the CCD.” The 8,000 capacity CCD is scheduled to open on 1 September 2010. It will feature 22 purpose-built meeting rooms, including a state of the art 2,000-seater auditorium and exhibition space of 4,500sqm.
