Barcelona: 36% rise in C&I trade brings £960m

The number of meetings held in Barcelona leapt 36% last year and delegate numbers climbed by 28%, according to latest figures published by the Barcelona Convention Bureau (BCB). According to the statistics, the city hosted 1,775 professional meetings in 2007 – 472 more than the previous year. The Catalan capital attracted 629,704 delegates, a rise of 138,676 more on 2006 and the increases helped drive total revenue of over £960m in C&I business in 2007. Elsewhere, the CVB claims Barcelona recorded a 33.5% increase in overnight C&I stays, with meetings accounting for 2,322,371 of the hotel overnights invoiced.
