Sundial Group has retained its number one spot for the second consecutive year in the Venue Verdict awards, compiled by analyst Business Development Research Consultants (BDRC).
The conference and training centre specialist was named top venue group, while its Woodside property in Warwickshire was the number one management training centre and, for the second year running, top Midlands venue.
Sundial Group managing director Tim Chudley attributed its success to the positive attitude of staff.
"Of course we have standards and policies but we believe that when people take responsibility for, and pride in, what they do, they are inspired to go that extra mile," said Chudley. "Being a good company to work for means doing the things people care about. Sustainability and ethics are at the top of many personal agendas so we are working hard in these areas."
Sundial Group would invest £1m in property rerfurbishments and technology this year, said Chudley.
Meanwhile, Marriott topped the large hotel group category, while the Royal College of Physicians was named the overall best venue and Park Plaza Cardiff top hotel.
Venue Verdict is complied by BDRC using online post-event feedback from event planners and a minimum number of responses is required for a venue to be eligible for an award. Feedback is gathered continually throughout the year and the awards are made on an annual basis.
BDRC director of performance management Matt Costin said the results reinforced the connection between top service and repeat business. “Retaining customers is cheaper than winning new ones and we are seeing more evidence of the leading meetings venues taking a more proactive approach towards identifying high value customers and maintaining their relationship on an ongoing basis,” he said.
