Dubai World Trade Centre tops the million mark

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has recorded its busiest year since opening in 1979, according to its end year report for 2007. The set-up includes the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) venue, which saw visitor numbers top the one million mark last year, across exhibitions, conferences and other events – a 25% increase on 2006. “Breaking through the one million visitor ceiling is a monumental achievement and provides the group with an important platform for growth in 2008,” said DWTC director general Helal Saeed Al Marri. “It demonstrates how effectively we are promoting Dubai to the international market and also underlines our capacity and capabilities for hosting major business events.” In the meetings sector, DICEC hosted over 250 congresses, seminars and workshops, attracting a further 50,000 business delegates. Last year also saw staff numbers at DWTC grow by over 25%, increasing headcount from just over 1,000 employees in 2006 to 1,255 employees.
