MPI targets non-members for conference

Meeting Professionals International and Excel London are lining up a marketing push as the former looks to attract non-members to its educational conference next year. Moves unveiled so far at this afternoon´s EIBTM seminar include a marketing committee and ambassador programme. MPI vice president of global development Didier Scaillet said the organisation was working to attract non-MPI members to The European Meetings and Events Conference being held at Excel London next year. "We are really trying to break through the wall of the closed community," he said. "This is an event to which we are trying to attract people - including those who work in PR or marketing - who don´t know that they are actually in the events industry." Excel London managing director (conference and events) Vanessa Cotton said a marketing committee had been set up and was actively targeting fresh blood. "We have a marketing committee with different sub groups attacking the different sectors, such as finance and pharmaceutical," she said. "There are people in the industry who are ambassadors and they are going out to their peers and telling them that they need to come to The European Meetings and Events Conference." The conference programme will include education specifically for pharmaceutical and financial meeting planners. It will also provide education on tangible skills such as budgeting, as well as top-level education on the likes of leadership. Scaillet said MPI hoped to attract 800 people to the conference including about 250 non-members.
